These calavera were created using traditional Mexican crafting techniques. The papier mache skull-shaped base is formed around a clay mold, then cut off of the mold, resealed and decorated. Currently two different molds are being used to produce two ongoing series of calaveras. Each calavera produced from these molds is numbered within their series, however, unique in their exterior design. These calaveras have been shown throughout the US in galleries including the Creative Arts Center (Burbank, CA), the Dougherty Arts Center (Austin, TX), the Maude Kerns Art Center (Portland, OR), the Winchester Cultural Center and Gallery Au Go-Go (Las Vegas, NV). |
